The Mind
There’s
work to be done. Take your eyes off your circumstances and keep it on
the Lord. Peter walked on
water when he kept his eyes on Jesus. In his mind, he might have
been saying “on Christ the
solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, He is my firm foundation, my
solid rock, my dry ground. I sure can do all things through Christ who
strengthens me.” I am coming Lord I am coming. Wait a minute Lord I just
need to make sure this water is solid! Oh my goodness! Water is not
solid, it is liquid and I am walking on it. What was I thinking! And
really looking down with his natural eyes he started drowning because he
stopped focusing on God. You cannot focus on God and the problem and be
victorious.
The mind has just one eye and can only look at one
thing at a time. The expression is “your mind’s eye” and not “your
mind’s eyes.” It sees one thing and not another at one time. Your mind
just needs a little push in the wrong direction and it will keep going.
It will not exit until it has gone around the block. That is why the
Bible says keep your mind stayed on Christ. Romans 12:2 says be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Transformation is a process
and happens only when you constantly renew your mind with God’s word.
The mind is deceitful above all else who can know it. The mind is the
danger zone. You can stay away from destruction by renewing your mind with
God’s word. Murder is committed in the mind, abortion, infidelity,
sexual immorality are all committed in the mind.
Back
to Peter and I believe that Peter started drowning after he entertained
the thought that no one walks on water and stays afloat. In his mind,
he said he was going to drown and boom he started going down. Had he
kept his mind on Christ, he would have surely completed the water walk.
